| Fatal Payout a complete perfection 18 November, 2005 | |
GABORONE - Set in the modern day Phakalane, Fatal Payout is a book about suburban bliss, money and all that comes with it, including greed, power, infidelity and intrigue. When John and Boitumelo promised each other the world and that they would always be together, little did the would- be husband know that his heartthrob would turn into a cold-hearted monster once they had taken the marriage vows. Having fallen in love with everything expensive, Boitumelo does not seem to care what her husband does to get money to sustain her tastes, something, which ultimately spell doom for the marriage. An engineer in the roads department, John is appointed as chairman of a tender board that has to award a million Pula project to a construction company. In his quest to please his wife, John accepts a P100 000 bribe from his long-lost friend Ronald Simmons to ensure that his company gets the award. One clerk in the department overhears one of John and Simmons conversations, and after a few days she is found dead on the floor of her apartment and all signs point to John Mogami. Detective Kate Gomolemo of the Criminal Investigation Department is brought in to investigate the case in which all evidence leads to John yet her instincts tell her otherwise. But she has to do her job. American born Lauri Kubuitsile who came to Botswana to serve as a United States Peace Corps volunteer in Mahalapye from 1989 to 1991 wrote Lack Payout. From 1991 to 1996 she taught in various schools in Mahalapye before becoming the Managing Director of the Central advertiser in Mahalapye-a post she still holds. She is married to a Motswana. BOPA |
