| Ravalomanana flies to Kasane for relaxation 22 August, 2005 | |
KASANE - After a hectic Southern African Development Community (SADC) two-day summit agenda in Gaborone, Madagascar President Marc Ravalomanana, flew out to Kasane for a moment of relaxation at one of Botswanas top tourist destinations. Ravalomanana landed at the Kasane International Airport late on Thursday in the company of his closest family members. Chobe District authorities met him at the airport. The entourage, which included that countrys first lady Lalao and their two sons proceeded to Mowana Lodge where they lodged until yesterday when they returned to their country. The president and his team were treated to game viewing through a land drive along the Chobe National Park early Friday morning. In the evening of the same day they switched over to a boat drive along the Chobe River, which is usually well stocked with game at that time of the day. On Saturday, the group crossed into Zimbabwe on a return journey to Victoria Falls. That notwithstanding, details about the presidents holiday in Botswana have been very sketchy and difficult to come by as officials close to the team made it clear to BOPA reporters that the tour was strictly private and that journalists presence was not welcome at all. Ravalomanana came into power after winning Madagascars 2001 elections, taking over from his predecessor Diedier Ratsiraka. BOPA |
