Thousands enrol with distance learning college
04 February, 2002

About 7 000 people have enrolled with the Botswana College of Distance and Open Learning (BOCODOL).

Education minister George Kgoroba said this when officiating at a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a P18 million BOCODOL headquarters in Gaborone last week.

Kgoroba, who also officiated at another ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a P33 million building of the examinations council, said the facilities will improve service quality and support once they are completed.

He added that the number of students who enrol with BOCODOL is bound to rise due to the on-going social demand for education.

The minister expressed appreciation for the contribution made by the examinations unit in localising senior secondary examinations in partnership with the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES).

He added that the new building of the examinations council is designed to enhance the security of all operations associated with examinations.

The construction of BOCODOL would be done by China State Construction and Engineering Corporation and the building would be completed in May 2003,whilst the examinations council would be constructed by Complant Botswana and is due for completion in July 2003.
