Road construction starts in June
07 December, 2001

Construction of Rakops/Mopipi road is planned to start immediately after the completion of a detailed engineering design and materials investigation study in June 2002.

However, the project is dependent on the availability of funds, acting minister of Works, Transport and Communications, Daniel Kwelagobe told Parliament, yesterday.

Answering a question from Okavango MP, Joseph Kavindama, Kwelagobe said the project is part of his ministry's plan for bitumen roads and that Bangladesh Consultants Ltd, a locally registered firm, in association with Associated Engineers Ltd have been commissioned to undertake the study.

Kavindama had wanted to know the intended action on the Mopipi/Rakops road to allow it to cope with the anticipated increase in the volume of traffic along that road owing to the completion of the Rakops/Motopi road.
