The retired Deputy Town Clerk Finance and Administration, Mrs Patricia Shonga encouraged employees of the City of Francistown Council to work as a team and take responsibility in their tasks. She said this when addressing employees at Civic Center Hall during a meeting organized to bid her colleagues farewell recently.

The retired Deputy Town Clerk Finance and Administration, Mrs Patricia Shonga encouraged employees of the City of Francistown Council to work as a team and take responsibility in their tasks. She said this when addressing employees at Civic Center Hall during a meeting organized to bid her colleagues farewell recently.

She informed the gathering that after serving the public service for more than twenty eight (28) years, she will exit the public service through early voluntary retirement on the 30th September 2013. She further said that she will continue serving this beautiful and loving nation.

Mrs Shonga joined the public service as a Setswana and Geogarphy secondary school teacher in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, in July 1985 at Swaneng Hill School. She taught at various schools like McConnell College, Ngambao CJSS, Motsumi CJSS, Sedimo Hill CJSS and Setlalekgosi CJSS. During her teaching career, she held various posts such as the Deputy Head at Ngambao CJSS and Motsumi CJSS. She was also the school head for Sedimo Hill CJSS and Setlalekgosi CJSS in 1996 to 2000 and 2001 to 2004 respectively. Since joining the teaching cadre, Mrs Shonga has been an athletics and netball coach in all the schools she taught at.

In 2004, she was appointed as the Principal Education Officer (Management and Training) for Secondary Departments. Her duties included assisting schools in the Western part of the country in developing strategic plans and annual plans which are now in place.

She was promoted to the post of District Performance Improvement Coordinator (DIPIC) in 2005, where she was responsible for Local government institutions to adopt and implement reforms adopted by government with the aim of satisfying customers. In her capacity as DIPIC, she served at Central District Council and the City of Francistown Council.

In 2008, she was promoted to the post of DTC (F&A) , in North East District Council and latter transferred to the City of Francistown Council in July 2011.

Mrs Shonga has presented several research papers in secondary schools heads cluster workshops and women in educational management workshops in topics covering staff appraisal, AIDS awareness, assertiveness, stress management just to mention a few. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree, and Post Graduate Diploma in Education all attained from University of Botswana. We wish her well in her future endeavor.
